History of Jamaica

The original people settled on the island were Arawak Indians, all but distinct. It became a territorial fight between Spain and England to claim the land for themselves.  In the end British ruled until Independence in 1962.

Food
Naturally spiced with wonderful aromatic smells and tastes.  A Jamaican meal would consist of lots of natural vegetables and perhaps fish or chicken.  Jerk originated in Jamaica, a spicy tantalizing taste that the world tries to duplicate.   Chicken is the standard jerk item, however Jerk is also used on just about anything including fish, lobster, shrimp and pork.

People
Jamaicans are very friendly people. They have traditional views and live a simple lifestyle not filled with material things.   Family is important, and they love to smile and laugh with visitors to their country.

Culture
Jamaicans are very proud people, and it is advised to ask before snapping your camera at them.  There are more churches per square mile in Jamaica than any other country in the world.
